How the estimate works

  1. Enter how many drinks you have on a typical day.
  2. Pick the container you usually buy: a 12 oz can, a 20 oz bottle, a 2-liter, or a 12-pack.
  3. Enter what you usually pay for that container. Packs and 2-liters are split into 12 oz servings.
  4. The calculator multiplies the daily cost by 7, 30.44, and 365.25 days.

It is a planning number. If you want to see calories and sugar instead of dollars, try the soda calorie and sugar calculator.

What quitting could save in a year

If you stop buying soda, the yearly number from the calculator is about what you keep. The table uses example prices, not survey data, to show how fast it adds up over 365.25 days.

Example yearly soda cost by drinks per day and price per 12 oz drink
Drinks per dayAt $1.00 eachAt $1.50 eachAt $2.50 each
1 a day$365$548$913
2 a day$731$1,096$1,826
3 a day$1,096$1,644$2,739

If you replace soda with something you also buy, such as cans of plain sparkling water, subtract that cost to get your real savings. If soda is mostly a workday habit, see how to quit soda at work.

Frequently asked questions

How is the yearly soda cost calculated?

Drinks per day times the price of one drink, then times 7 for a week, 30.44 for a month, and 365.25 for a year. For packs and 2-liter bottles, the price is split into 12 oz servings first.

How much does a can a day cost per year?

At $1.50 a can, one can a day is about $548 a year. Use your own price in the calculator, since prices vary by store and pack size.

Does a 2-liter count as one drink?

No. The calculator counts a 2-liter bottle as about 5.6 servings of 12 oz, so enter how many 12 oz servings you drink per day.

Is anything I enter saved or sent?

No. The calculator runs in your browser and nothing is sent to QuitSoda.

How much will I save in a year if I quit soda?

Multiply what you spend on soda per day by 365.25, then subtract what you spend on any replacement drink. At an example price of $1.50 a can, two cans a day comes to about $1,096 a year.
