Everyday soda swaps
Replace the drink, keep the ritual. The goal is a cold, familiar reach that is not regular or diet soda — not a perfect health scorecard.
How to quit soda (30-day plan) — full habit plan, then this guide for one lane.
How QuitSoda counts drinks
For this challenge, soda includes regular, diet, zero-sugar, and drinks sold as soda with added prebiotics. Unsweetened sparkling water and unsweetened tea are alternatives. That is our challenge definition, not a claim that every drink has identical health effects. More on the fizz lane: sparkling water vs soda.
No-purchase options first
- Store-brand unsweetened sparkling water from a grocery you already visit.
- Tap or filtered water in a bottle you like, ice if cold matters.
- Coffee or tea you already buy, without sweetener if that is part of your soda break.
- Ask for soda water or sparkling water at restaurants instead of fountain soda.
Pick a lane
- Still water — cheapest and simplest. Pair with the bottle guide if the container is what fails.
- Unsweetened sparkling water — keeps fizz without soda sweetness (La Croix, Waterloo, Spindrift, Topo Chico, Bubly, and store brands).
- Unsweetened tea — when you want flavor and warmth or iced tea ritual; see the tea guide.
- Home fizz — if you already drink a lot of sparkling water, compare a machine on the carbonator guide.
- Soda-taste bridge — OLIPOP only when seltzer is not enough yet; still counts as soda here, so keep it occasional.
When not to buy online
- Your local store already stocks a brand you like — grocery is often cheaper than shipping cans.
- You have not tasted the flavor yet. Buy one can or a small pack first.
- You are stocking a pantry to feel productive. Restock after a week of real use (Day 26 of the challenge).
Products
Common grocery swaps with Amazon as a backup when your store is out. Brand availability and prices change.
-
The plain baseline. If flavored seltzer still tastes like “diet soda” to you, start here and add citrus at home.
-
Waterloo Summer Berry, 12 × 12 oz
A louder fruit profile than many essence-only seltzers. Useful when plain sparkling water feels too flat to replace soda.
-
Spindrift variety pack, 20 × 12 oz
Closer to juice-soda ritual without added sugar. Try one flavor before you commit to a big case.
-
Use only if it still has to taste like soda for a while. For this challenge, drinks sold as soda with prebiotics still count toward your soda goal — treat OLIPOP as a temporary bridge, not a free pass. Prefer this brand link; Amazon backup if you already shop there.
OLIPOP primary link goes through Impact to drinkolipop.com. Sparkling-water picks above stay on Amazon when grocery is out.
